Kurzevaluationsmethoden

Datum: 03.01.2004

Meine Funde zu Kurzevaluationsmethoden

(That’s what I found as to short methods of evaluation :-) )

In the book: “Methodenvielfalt im Untericht – mit Lust stressarm und effektive lernen” which could be translated as “diversityof methods  in lessons – learning effectively and without pressure“by J. Thal and U. Ebert I found some methods of evaluation– which are not questionnaires. Very good -in my opinion- is the fact that for each method you get the information which of the following four criteria are met:

Action takes place

many pupils are involved

Nobody is exposed without his consent

communication takes place

In English I will only provide the absolutely necessary information about every method. Please write to me, if  you have questions on any of the methods.

When you have got and read the overview of the methods I would like to get a feedback;which methods you could imagine to try out in your current lessons.

A: association with photos

Action takes place

yes

many pupils are involved

yes

nobody is exposed without his consent

yes

communication takes place

yes

You have a lot of photos which have – more or less – to do with the subject you want to evaluate. Attention: Take photos even if the connection to the subject is only marginal.

The photos are all lying on the floor or on a table. Every pupil takes – for example – two photos, which he positively or negatively associates with the subject.
Then all students are sitting in a circle of chairs and everyone can present his photos and can tell the others why he has chosen that particular picture or he can talk about his feelings.

B: my point of view

Action takes place

yes

many pupils are involved

Yes

nobody is exposed without his consent

communication takes place

Yes

You divide the classroom into two parts with a rope, cellar tape or a line of chalk. Then you ask the students to line up on the rope.

You make a statement. The pupils now decide where to position themselves to show their points of view:

- neutral:they stay on or close to the rope

- absolutely pro : they take several steps to the left

- absolutely con.: they take several steps to the left

Now you can ask for their arguments or let them exchange their arguments. The more provocative the statement, the better for a controversial discussion. Alternatively you can also let the pupils find statements.
