Role-play to practise feedback on peer evaluation

Procedure:

Get together in groups of three. In your group there are three roles:

  • somebody who gives feedback
  • somebody who receives feedback
  • observer

There are three rounds, so that finally each participant has taken on each role once.

At the beginning of each round all participants get the same worksheet with a description of a scenario in the classroom which should be read carefully. The person giving feedback imagines/visualizes the scenario and takes notes. Then this person gives feedback to the „lesson“ which he/she has just „watched“, taking into account the information at the end of the worksheet.

This is then followed by an oral feedback in accordance with the feedback and communication rules.

The observer watches the feedback, possibly takes notes, and afterwards tells the other two participants what he/she has noticed. Criteria for his observations are the above mentioned rules.

Finally there is a short talk of the three participants.

Each round shouldn’t take longer than 20 minutes (reading: 5 minutes, feedback: 10 minutes; observation and final talk: 5 minutes), i.e. the whole procedure will take  1 hour.
