| 2.3. | SEFES Evaluation |
The main goal of the project was to establish a culture of self-evaluation at each participating school in order to develop our schools by improving the quality and effectiveness of the teaching-learning process. This was to be achieved by trying out various methods of self-evaluation, exchanging and discussing our experience as well as learning from each other and then disseminating the most effective methods in our respective schools.
We focused on four different methods:
- peer evaluation
- student feedback
- teacher’s diary
- photo evaluation
which proved to be useful in different ways. The project meetings as well as the e-mails, regularly sent to each other, and the website helped to improve the methods by getting new ideas and learning from each other’s similarities and differences. This was very motivating, provided a frame for the process and encouraged us to go on.
Conclusion:
All participating schools have been able to start a successful process, which will continue beyond the project, as the SEFES members have managed by various means to encourage also other colleagues to use methods of self-evaluation and getting the support of the headmasters. Some of the methods include students, so that also they have become acquainted with evaluation and thus active participants in the school development. As a result self-evaluation has not only affected a small group of teachers, but has been spread in our schools and has had an impact on the quality of education:
- teachers have introduced new teaching methods
- a better relationship between teachers and students has been established as the students feel more important and responsible in school life
- the teaching environment has become more friendly as students’needs are taken into account.
