The PEER EVALUATION in
Rzeszow
CATHOLIC GRAMMAR SCHOOL ( general academic profile)
MOCK ORAL EXAM AS A WAY OF STUDENTS-TEACHER EVALUATION AND PEER EVALUATION before final exams
Objectives
The main objective of the mock oral exam in our school is to assess students’ achievements and provide the teachers with peer-evaluation before final examinations. As a form of on-going assessment and teachers’ evaluation it inspires innovations in these fields. It is also supposed to encourage teachers’ cooperation in the field of evaluation. The last but not least important aim of the mock oral exam is to help students overcome stress which may negatively influence their performance during a proper exam. During the mock exam they are exposed to the real-like atmosphere of the final exam. Finally, the mock exam gives the Principal and the teachers involved the idea of how the students performance corresponds with the final grades in a given subject
Method
The teacher of a group of students cannot examine their own group, so two teachers swap their groups and examine each other’s students. This kind of peer evaluation is carried out simultaneously with assessing students’ (ss) achievements. Students of the group 1 (G1) are examined by the teacher of the group 2 (T2) and respectively, students of the group 2(G2) are examined by the teacher of the group 1 (T1). At the same time T1 observes and takes notes of the T2’s performance on the special evaluation-report sheet. After the mock exam both teachers carry out mutual evaluation of their work. They also analyze ss’ expected level and their actual performance paying extra attention to those areas of exam preparation which need additional work on. Finally, on the basis of the conclusions drawn suggestions are made for he future work with the ss.
